My favorite time’s of the year to visit Colorado is Summer & Winter.  I am going to give you the inside scoop on my summer & winter adventures on things to do.

Summer

Boulder, Colorado

This mountain town is about 30 minutes from the hustle of Denver. It sits at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Best part about this is town is,  jagged rock formations of the Flatirons that sit to the west, which looks over the city. If you aren’t into hiking, you can hangout in Downtown Boulder’s famous Pearl Street. This street has it all, art galleries, cafes, restaurants, and boutiques.

My first stop in Boulder, was hiking the Flatirons.

Chautauqua Park Trailhead, Flatirons- Boulder, Colorado

I started my hike at Chautauqua Trailhead on the first trail. As I was hiking into the mountain, I got a perfect view (as seen above), I even got to see some animal friends while walking further into the mountain.

IMG_0485While hiking, I got in-touch with nature that left me in awe. The feel of fresh air, the smells of the pine trees, sounds of all the critters around me, really made me feel at peace.

Getting in-touch with my inner-self I came across something quite interesting. I’ve never seen this before until I was deep into the Flatirons.

I came across these stacked rocks. Which I found very interesting during my hike. I kept seeing them every so often after I kept walking. When I made it back to the ranger station, I decided to educate myself on what it meant.

These stacked rocks are called Cairn. A man made pile (stacked) of stones. They have been used for a wide range of things over time. All starting form the prehistoric era  to the present time. They serve a purpose and what they  are used for on the hiking trail is, if a hiker loses his or her way they can follow it back to the trail. They can also indicate that the trail is extremely hard to follow.

After learning about the cairn, I educated myself more about the hiking in trails in the park. Here is a trail snapshot for the first and second Flatiron Hike

  • Hike Distance : 2.6 miles roundtrip
  • Difficulty: Moderate
  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Elevation: +1400
  • Trail Type: Out &Back
  • Dogs: Allowed on leash
  • Beauty: Continental Divide,Expansive Meadows,Wildflowers, Flatiron Rock formations cliffs.

I was sad to see my hike end but after along day I headed back to my hotel so I can rest up. The next day I got to explore more of Boulder!!

I spent a lot of time exploring the famous Pearl Street and The University Of Colorado-Boulder.

I walk around Pearl Street, really embracing my surroundings with the buzz of people and the tree lined street. Also walked into some really awesome art galleries that I fell in love with. If you’re ever in Boulder, Colorado take a visit to:

  • Boulder Arts & Crafts
  • SmithKlein Gallery

After, walking thru the galleries I really wanted to try the Boulder ChopHouse & Tavern but it was close since it only opened for happy hour & dinner. Though if you ever in the area PLEASE TRY IT  and let me know how it is. The menu looked amazing.

My time ended in Boulder but I knew I would be back for my favorite time of the year.

Winter

Tis the season in Colorado! Where the Rocky Mountains are covered in fresh snow, the fresh air is cold, & all the snowboarders and skiers come out of hibernation.

You’re probably thinking what the hell is their to do in Colorado during the winter time? Well let me tell you, there is a lot you can do besides snowboarding in Breckenridge or in Aspen.

Here is the go to guide to navigating the cold winter on your Colorado Adventure.

Driving from California to Colorado is a very long drive, though you see a lot. Once you hit Colorado you hit the Rocky Mountains first! The first sight I saw was snow-covered mountains, let me tell you it was such a gorgeous sight.

Driving thru the Rocky Mountains!!

Even though it was a picture perfect clear and sunny day it was 10 degrees outside!! Seriously freezing!!

With sights headed for Denver,Colorado, I did take the time to make some stops along the way. Especially for my dog Sydney! She couldn’t wait to play in the snow.

After a rest stops so  I could stretch my legs and Sydney could stretch hers. We made our way to alittle town right outside of Aspen,Colorado called Frisco.

I fell in love with this little ski town. With the population a little over 2,000 it was the perfect stop as I made my way to Denver.

I didn’t really explore Frisco because it was late at night and extremely cold. Plus I just stopped for food in this town. Though what made me fall in love with this town is when I looked up it was all the stars ! It looked like someone dropped glitter in the sky.

Till this day I can’t tell you where I ate but all I know is that I had the best chicken parmesan.

After taking a pit stop in Frisco, I made my way down the Rocky Mountains, to Denver! I got into the city pretty late at night.

I ended up getting a room last minute at the Hilton Garden Inn, Downtown Denver. I recommend staying there or if you’re feeling up to spending little more stay at the Ritz.

Other Activities you can do in the Rocky Mountains if you don’t ski or snowboard

  • Winter X Games-Aspen, Colorado  Jan 25-Jan28
  • Attend A Winter Festival- The locals love celebrating winter with fun activities to do
  • Snow tubing  with the little ones
  • Take a bus tour of Rocky Mountain National Park
  • Soak in a natural Hot Springs- Strawberry Park, right outside of Steamboat Springs.

Day 2

Time to explore Denver!

Driving thru-Denver, Colorado

I woke up early and headed to one of Denvers favorite diners Sam’s Number 3.

D for Denver and this is painted on the window front of Sam’s No. 3

While exploring the large breakfast menu, I ended up ordering a large cup of coffee and the Cowboy Benedict.

The Cowboy Benedict is made with a 6oz steak, grilled & sliced to order on top of red grilled onions & tomatoes. Also I totally recommend adding hash browns and bacon as a side then it will be perfect!!

After having a nice early morning breakfast, which I totally recommend going to this place for breakfast.IT IS A MUST STOP.

I ended up at the one place locals come together and show there hometown pride!

Thats right I ended up at Mile High Stadium, home to the NFL Team The Denver Broncos.

I had to stop and see this wonderful stadium for myself and I was totally impressed with it. From how clean they keep it to the horse statues they have leading up into the stadium. This place is a must see on your Denver adventure.

Unfortunately my  winter vacation in Denver had to come to a close because I was headed to my next stop.

You got things to do during both Summer & Winter. Hope my adventures help you add stuff to your list of things to do during you Colorado Adventure.

Till Next Time Colorado
