It’s fall break in the midwest , this means colleges give students a week off to relax before the last final push of the semester and prepare for winter break . Which means it’s time for me to pack my bags,to head home to the warm climate of the west coast.
Most of y’all are probably thinking what is there to do in Southern California during the fall.Let me tell you there is tons to do. As I tell you about my week home you’re going to get a glimpse of what a local does. Hopefully my week home inspires you to find things in your hometown or helps you plan your west coast adventure.

It’s go time. My flight left Lambert Airport in St.Louis around 6am and headed west to my hometown of Los Angeles, California. The 4 hour flight to LA felt longer than usual. I was so excited & literally couldn’t wait to get off the plane to hug my mom.

It’s Friday morning in Los Angeles, the energy of the city & the people is just electric. With the weather being a nice 90 degrees, I can’t complain about it at all. This means beach days ahead.

After rushing to baggage claim to hug my mom & my best friend, the first thing we do is meet up with my cousin who just recently moved to Northern California. If you’re a California native, you know the on going feud between NorCal & SoCal. One is better than the other, yet Southern California is where my heart is.
Best part about coming home fall break is that, it’s right at the start of my favorite time of the year, HOCKEY SEASON!

What better way to start my weekend off right is by going to a Los Angeles Kings game with my parents.

It was my moms first time going to an National Hockey game, which seems so wild to me because I’ve been to more games than I can count. I was so happy that, I got to be apart of this experience with her and show her something that brings me pure joy.
Even though the Kings lost to the Sabers, it was still a great day spent with my parents and I also got to meet one of the best NHL announcers in Southern California Hockey: Bob Miller

Meeting the voice of the Los Angeles Kings was literally a highlight to my week home. I was almost in tears when I met him. Something most people don’t know about me is that my dream is to work for the National Hockey League one day. So meeting Bob Miller was a huge deal to me.
As for the rest of the week went, I spent lots of time with close friends & most importantly my family.
When I wasn’t hanging out with my family. My best friends kept me occupied with hanging out at the beach or doing some type of wacky adventure. The famous Southern California weather didn’t disappoint me at all with being in the high 90’s. It’s literally summer all year around.

Getting to bust out the bikini and take some photos was pretty great. It was a nice change from the cold 30-40 degree weather, I have been enduring in the midwest.

Here are list of great beaches to explore anytime of the year if you’re ever in California:
- Malibu -Hit the waves at Surfrider beach
- Santa Monica -Hangout at the Pier & take a ride on the world’s only solar powered Ferris wheel
- Seal Beach – This sleepy little beach town is home to some amazing local haunts
- Huntington Beach – Surf city USA, hangout on main street or go watch the locals surf some waves in one of Orange County’s most famous beaches.
- Newport Beach – one of my favorites, take a trip to famous Fashion Island or hangout walking around Balboa Island.
- Laguna Beach – FAVORITE : During the summer take a visit to the Pageant Of The Masters or the Sawdust Art festival

When I wasn’t hangout at the beach with my friends , we were exploring the concrete jungle of Los Angeles. Looking for new small locally owned shops and new places to eat. Which is always amazing. Something new is always coming to L.A, so why no try it or experience it.

A new store that I took a visit to is called the House of Intuition. This store is a crystal shop dedicated to help individuals achieve healing, transformation, empowerment, and personal growth.

Location: 2237 W. Sunset Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90026
They are open Monday-Sunday: 10am-10pm. You never know what you’re going to find. If you are ever in the L.A area, this place is a must go to.
Like I said while I was home I was looking for new places to eat.I did find a really great restaurant in the heart of downtown Los Angeles.
Public School 213

Public School is a restaurant + bar serving exclusively craft beer and schools the consumer in “The Art of Food & Beer”.All the ingredients in there food is at the highest quality , all sourced from the local Farmer’s Markets around the L.A area. The menu is constantly changing due to the seasons, so there is always something new to try which is great.
Exploring the city and finding new things to do was amazing because I found 2 new places I will definitely be back to.
I did spend a lot of time on the coast & I did one of my favorite things to do while home hangout on a boat and explore the California Coast line. Which is extremely relaxing to me.

While hanging out with friends on a boat in the open ocean, I did a lot of self-reflecting and I never realized that I took where I am from for granted. I think me moving away & living on my own, was the best decision I made for myself. Appreciate the little things a lot more, especially my family & friends.

When I wasn’t exploring the city, with my friends, or hanging out at the beach. I spent a lot of time with my family which made coming home very sweet. I won’t see them until christmas break, which makes me sad but it is what it is. Cannot wait to come back home for christmas and tell everyone about my new experiences with my life in the midwest.
My week was filled with lots of laughter, friendship, & most importantly family.
Till Next time California.

Hope my week inspired you to go back to your hometown and explore your city .
Happy Travels
